In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Melinda Beck reported that mammograms miss 40% of breast cancers in women with dense breasts, and that these women are four times more likely to develop breast cancer than others. This is generating greater demand for education about dense breast tissue. Also more States are considering requirements for radiologists to inform women if they have dense breasts.
‘Some physicians think that women with dense breasts should have regular ultrasound screenings—or at least the option to consider it. "The vast majority of women are capable of hearing this information and not freaking out," says the Mayo Clinic's Dr. Rhodes.’
