Our new eBook on “Transrectal Ultrasound-Guided Prostate Brachytherapy” offers an introduction to the setup and techniques associated with prostate brachytherapy.

Brachytherapy has emerged as an effective and relatively low cost treatment for certain prostate cancers, resulting in low morbidity, potential convenience of a single-day outpatient procedure and high patient tolerability. With transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided brachytherapy, radiation is delivered directly into the gland. Ultrasound offers accurate imaging guidance to place the radioactive sources directly into the prostate using a template-guided transperineal technique. The ability of transducers to image in both transverse and sagittal planes enhances the accuracy of this technique.
